David Gilmour (March 6, 1946)

Guitarist, singer and very occasional songwriter for legendary band Pink Floyd. David joined the band following the mental departure of Syd Barrett, the leader of the band and its sound in its earliest form. With David taking his place, the band's sound became less psychedelic and more progressive. As Roger said, they couldn't write singles, which he claimed was a good thing (and rightly so). The Floyd started to prove their worth to the masses releasing Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, among others. David started off singing the most when he joined the band, taking most lead vocals until Roger developed his vocal technique on Animals. David sings with a lot of weight in his upper register, often singing up to G4 or so; he also enjoys his soft singing, most commonly heard in albums like More and Meddle. He developed more of a clean tone in the later Floyd albums like A Momentary Lapse of Reason.
