Summary:
Best known as the drummer for the band Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins's musical talents don't only reside in the realm of percussion. His voice, which he utilises frequently with the Foos in the form of backing and occasional lead vocals, is arguably just as strong as his drumming. Hawkins first emerged as the drummer for Sylvia, (who would soon become known as Anyone), a band he would then proceed to leave to become the drummer in Alanis Morrisette's touring band. Not long after this, he would join Foo Fighters in 1997. From there he would go on to form various acts, such as Taylor Hawkins & the Coattail Riders, Chevy Metal and The Birds of Satan.
Hawkins’ voice has stayed very consistent over the years, seeing very little change at all. His low range is mostly used for backing vocals, with lead vocals in this area of his voice being extremely rare. That being said, usage of his low range in any context is very rare. His high range on the other hand is very much his forte, with a mix voice reaching well into the fifth octave. Hawkins is a very proficient vocalist with an instantly recognisable tone. Since joining Foo Fighters, his voice has become an essential part of the band's sound, just as much as his drumming. As well as his various musical talents, his ability as a frontman, something which he makes look effortless, is another accolade with which he can be awarded. If nothing else, the fact that he can take on the role of frontman while performing with Foo Fighters, Brian May and Roger Taylor, and pull it off, is certainly very impressive.
