Cool G5 scream at 0:46 Also, have we thought about a top 10 performances list? Some that come to mind: -My Friend of Misery -The Unforgiven (really, all 3 Unforgivens come to mind) -Halo on Fire -The Outlaw Torn -Sabbra Cadabra -Ronnie Rising Medley -Cure -Low Man's Lyric -Bleeding Me -Dyers Eve As for live performances, I can think of No Leaf Clover and the S&M version of Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me, the Moscow 1991 versions of Creeping Death and Sad But True, The Thing That Should Not Be Adelaide 2013 for now. I like Remember Tomorrow and Wherever I May Roam live Denver 2017

I would add Hate Train and Rebel of Babylon to that list Oh yeah, didn't think of those but they are both very good performances, especially Hate Train. As for Dyers Eve, I find it's vocals impressive due to the sheer aggression and power throught the whole song, and I feel like there should be at least one pre-Black Album performance in the list.

For pre-Black Album performances maybe it could be something like "Disposable Heroes" or "The Thing That Should Not Be", or maybe a Ride the Lightning track like "Trapped Under Ice" or "Escape" with A4s all over the place.
Also maybe "Mama Said" could be in the top 10? Some of his best low singing and a very emotive performance overall.

Disposable Heroes is a very decent vocal performance, very good G4-B♭4s throught the entire song, I'd pick that one, although their cover of "Helpless" also has great vocals throught. Mama Said is indeed a contender, and this performance (afaik the only time the song has been played live) is certainly deserving of being in his top live performances list. Also, the G♯5 should be green imo, it's more of a distorted note than anything else.

Classic performance, I'm honestly impressed at how he was able to belt such chesty and powerful higher 4th octave notes after well over an hour of concert. No wonder he blew his voice, doing hundreds of gigs a year at this point, and no technique, just raw power. Around 1992 is where you start to heart the vocal decline. By '94 that classic Hetfield voice was gone. This one? Yeah, it's a very good one. Seattle '89 and Moscow '91 are the best concerts for that "classic" Black Album era Hetfield voice, I also like San Diego '92 and Mexico City '93, but you can tell he's a bit weaker and trying to preserve his voice already. San Diego has a great performance of "The Unforgiven" though. Speaking of Unforgiven, though: Phenomal peformance here, he really nails the climatic "forgive me... forgive me not" part.

3:07 Bb1 "on lay me down to SLEEP"? Either way, best live lows I've heard from him. Damn son that sounds good!

I'm really hoping that with James getting pretty well into his fifties now, we'll start getting some more regular outings for his lows in studio soon. I'm still waiting for Metallica to do something properly doomy. James would slay a big, slow gothic-doom number these days.

Agreed, with the very solid lower register he has, I was really dissapointed Hardwired bottomed at D3 and in a backing vocal no less. Even the first 3 albums have lower lead vocal singing, lol.
